Master’s Degree Learning Goals and Assessment
Master of Landscape Architecture 1
The MLA 1 program is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills in landscape architecture to address the environmental challenges facing the world today. Our accredited professional master’s in landscape architecture, the only accredited program in the State, is a 3-year program designed for people with an undergraduate degree in a different field. In the program you will learn to research, analyze, program, and design in the field of landscape architecture and all the skills required to communicate your ideas clearly (drawing, rendering, modelling and storytelling).
If you have a degree is in an allied field like ecology, environmental science, horticulture, plant science or architecture you may have some program courses waived. Make sure to ask when you apply.
Master of Landscape Architecture 2
The MLA 2 program is designed for emerging and mid-career professionals with an undergraduate degree in landscape architecture wanting to advance knowledge and expertise in a specific field of interest. The 30-credit program is customized for you to focus on advancement of research, planning or environmental practices pertinent to your aspirations and career goals. Our distinguished faculty will guide your explorations and scholarly research the fields of community engagement and design, environmental justice, post-industrial landscapes, resiliency and climate adaptation, cultural landscape heritage, critical landscape theory, and ecological planning.
International students and students with degrees in related fields
Our MLA students represent a diverse group of people contributing their insight to studio, construction and research work in the department. International students are encouraged to apply to enrich theirs and well as their cohort’s experience and knowledge. Applicants with degrees in an allied field may have equivalent courses waived.
